Last week a 68 year old woman from out of town was walking rightfully in a crosswalk in San Francisco at Embarcadero and Mission 8:30 am and mowed down by a cyclist who blew the traffic signal. http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2011/08/11/pedestrian-hit-by-bicyclist-in-san-francisco-dies/
This is manslaughter plain and simple and the person should be charged accordingly. What's to contemplate? re: http://www.kron.com/Article.aspx?ArticleID=1720
I have sympathize with "Critical Mass" advocates who increasingly and at times rudely impose their platform upon traffic flow to raise driver awareness that in our "green" society, autos should share the road with cyclists. I generally support this platform by peaceful means (re: Dr. Martin Luther King) versus by ANY means (re: Malcolm X).
What is disturbing is the number of "Critical Massholes" who do NOT obey traffic signals and have lost their way as responsible vehicle operators. This applies to skateboarders as well in my book. When the light turns red, vehicle operators MUST stop. I see far too many cyclists who continue to blow traffic lights and endangering pedestrians every day.
We need to measure and learn from this tragic and absolutely innocent death.
